About The Athenaeum
The significance of the Athenaeum is threefold: it is a fine example of classical revival architecture, one of only two in the City of Alexandria; it has a long and colorful history of occupation; and it is home to the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association. The Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in all forms of art, and to establishing programs that will enrich the cultural life of Northern Virginia and the surrounding metropolitan area.
Couples who share an appreciation for history and fine art will surely love the Athenaeum’s distinct and elegant setting. The Athenaeum is perfect for your intimate gathering, providing you and your guests with a unique and memorable experience.
The gallery can hold 150 people for a standing reception, while the charming courtyard can accommodate 35 guests. Fees are $250 per hour. There is a 5-hour minimum rental on Saturdays, and a 3-hour minimum at all other times. The building is not available for rent Thursday through Sunday during gallery hours, from 12 to 4 pm. The Athenaeum is one of the few privately owned buildings in Alexandria open to the public and depends largely on the community and donations for its survival.
In addition to weddings, The Athenaeum also hosts: Rehearsal Dinners, Seminars, Classes, Meetings, Concerts etc.
